I have been with Stevens Transport for 6 months, just finished my 90 day Grad Fleet. It started when the recruiter said I could make $900 to $1200 a week easy driving between 2500 and 300o miles per week. Well I drive 2500 to 3000 miles a week and I bring home $400 to $450 a week. I could come home everynight to my wife with a local job for this money.

I also reported my first trainer in to the company for acting improperly i.e. he threw urine on a woman driving by because he didnt like the way she was driving and accused her of trying to make him crash because he was black and a professional truck driver. He also threatened other truckers over the CB, as they were driving by because he said they were racist and was also trying to make him wreck becuase he is black and a professional truck driver and it upset the others drivers to see a black man on the road. He is still happily employed with this company.

The instructors and others in the company tell you that if you desire to quit as long as you leave your vehicle at a Kenworth Truck Dealer or any other approved locatioin is ok and you will not be charged with abandonement. To abandone a commercial truck is a big mistake. To my re-education this morning I was told that if I left my truck at the Kenworth dealer I would be abandoning the vehicle and would have to pay storage fees and go against my DAC report. Another lie by the Stevens Company.

Stevens pays its new hires .26 cpm which is way below what other companies pay for new hires. Stevens says we have the best pay and compensation and we are a premium company. Lies, lies, lies and more lies.

The new company I am going to work for starts out at .34 cpm for new hires w/ a .04 cpm bonus for on time delivery. roughly .38 cpm compared to .26 cpm is a very big difference when your running 2500 to 3000 miles weekly.

This is my opinion of Stevens Transport

Do you take a chance and GO with Stevens and HOPE they are OK or do you say STOP and don't go possibly missing a good job? Hwo do we know "Downhillracer" is not just a Stevens trainer posting something GOOD to keep us coming? I say NO, too may negative posts to positive to take the chance.

I am a wife of a new steven's student. Steven's is a joke. While in training, the trainer would talk on his cell. That is against company policy. While out with his first trainer, the trainer was doing everything illegal and even threatened another trucker on the CB. My husband requested another trainer. The 2nd trainer was in such a rush, he said they needed to team drive. All this happenening with the trainer swerving, dozing off and leaning up against the steering wheel to stay awake. My husband was afraid for his life. And they expect us to pay for the bogus price for training. This is ridiculous.

Now I'm confused, so many good and bad reports about this place. I have just applied to Stevens, though now I don't know if I should go along with it. What to do, what to do in this horrible recession.

Hey you pro Stevens guys....I left for Knight. I get .38 after 1 year .34 to start no bs. I get paid good and treated like a proffesional. I don't have to see 5 differant departments everytime I go to the yard to get cleared, they fix my tractor usally same day not 2 or 3 days ......I'm home just about every weekend! As to contracting, you do the math your gross sounds nice but if you lease a unit from them your getting ripped! If you really go and talk to Stevens drivers you won't find happy campers. They have the highest turn over rate out there! They Do have well maintained equipment I will give them that. If you want to make money at Stevens learn to share the truck and become a trainer thats what they are all about. As to why these big companies contracted with them...Cost, cheap labor = lowest cost. IBP does not give a rats butt whether the drivers are happy as long as their freight gets to receiver on time at the lowest cost. If you have ever been to IBP you know they treat drivers just like another head of cattle. I suspect Recruiting has a lot to do with the positive remarks on various web sites. :) :(

I also worked for Stevens. I fufilled my contract and left 1 day after confirming that all had been fufilled.

I would never let anyone go to there school. I was treated like a child, yelled at, threatend, and only received 3hrs behind the wheel before my CDL road test. I also had a Black racist trainer who threatend to leave my on the road side several times. Most of all they caused severe financial strain on my familly. I made less than half what they promised and was gone 5 weeks at a time, contrary to what they tell you I begged for loads all the time! Mostly I sat at a shipper not getting paid waiting on beef loads. I never ran the miles they said. Overall a BAD COMPANY! go somewhere else to work. PS they will put any little thing on your dac to try and prevent you from leaving.....I got out with only a small ding on my dac!

the only people that like stevens have peaked in their abilities to earn a living at the level of stevens and would otherwise be homeless. work for stevens and the only home you will be able to afford to live in is the tractor you are driving. this is common knowledge.

WOW!! I thought that it was just me that felt about stevens transport the way I did. I left C.R. England to go to stevens transport, and we drivers know about C.R. Englands reputation, and stevens transport made me regret leaving C.R. England!!!

It is true that you CAN make the money @ Stevens Transport. However, it is also true that 2500 m/w is $650 BEFORE taxes. I have found that there are definite mistatements @ Stevens. Most of the money one makes depends on the driver manager, how much you bend the laws on the log book (time compression, 2 books, actual time logged, (30 minutes minimal for proper DOT inspection, per Safety Dept.) etc. If you run it legal, and log it as you do it, Dispatch tends to give you crappy loads...this is what I did for the first year. Then I learned that I could get better loads by telling lies and cheating. Now, I have been a lease/contract driver for a while. Making top dollar. What Stevens won't tell you up front, is that in order to make the big bucks, you need to be a lease/contract driver. That means paying for the truck repairs yourself.....which takes money from the top. And not all of that is beneficial as a tax deduction. Bottom line, it depends on each individual's moral center (best if you have none), driver manager's efforts (which you can't control), and craftiness. I'm still working for Stevens after 4 years because I don't have a problem crossing moral boundaries and I make the money now that I do cross them.
