BEWARE of STEVENS TRANSPORT! COMPLETE FRAUDS.

Here's the "Steven's Promise": 3 weeks of CDL School-5 weeks of road training to log your hours, 350.00 per week while logging your road time/miles and a 5 figure income possibility as an employee of Steven's. Now, the TRUTH... It's 3 weeks of school-6-8 MONTHS, yes MONTHS to log your miles,(you also go on the road with an inexperienced trainee, also trying to fight for their miles), you are paid about 100.00 per week while you do this, all so that you can maybe earn 1000.00 per month as an employee of Stevens Transport. Even the recruiters laugh at you in class, saying that you can't believe anything that the recruiter has told you.

They seem to think that they are the Army and can do this. No, they are private enterprise, they can't. They threaten you with a contract thatthey don't stick to. A contract is ONLY valid when BOTH parties, not just you adhere to the original contractural agreement both verbal and/or written.

Steven's keeps NONE I mean NONE of these agreements. Not even when of if you fall for their school and additional ***. BIG TIME FRAUD. By the way, you do not need a school to get your CDL.All you need is a small fee, like 25.00, a free handbook from the DMV, and a legitimate place to log in your "road time" to get your hours.

ANYONE can take the CDL test and ANYONE can pass it if you can read. Steven's makes about 18,000 dollars per student to steal from you. The government pays them whether you finish or not. Steven's charges YOU 9000.00 for school, plus lodging, food etc.

for a test that could only cost you a few bucks somewhere else. BEWARE OF STEVENS TRANSPORT!!! They are a government-sponsored scam.

KEEP AWAY.

Monetary Loss: $18.

They cant touch your CDL. You pay the government for that fair and square.

But the collections dep will call you and act as if they are calling the police on you. Its pretty funny.

Stevens was by far the worst company that I had ever worked for. The recruiter lied to me.

When I found out that I wasn't getting home for Thanksgiving or Christmas, it dawned on me, its basically Prime Inc., all over again. They told me they had terminals in North Carolina where I lived, turned out they only have 2 in Texas. (Prime was a little better but not much). They will get you out as far away from home as humanly possibly (when it is time for your "agreed upon break"), and will make you take all of your stuff out of the truck and greyhound it thousands of miles.

They will do anything they can to keep you from getting home. Horrible company.

I got home 2 times in 5 months! I was promised 3 days every 2 weeks by the piece of garbage recruiter for that *** company.

Hey Anonymous!!!Your probably one of the corrupt staff that misrepresents the truthes you guys tell all new recruits. This guy doesnt need McDonalds it sounds like but a straight forward representative of your company which He clearly hasnt recieved...Ohhh and 1000’s of other people that have been burned by your less then honorable typical business practices!

Lets count the plethura of class action lawsuits filed against Stevens....Oooops wherd ya go there smart {{REDACTED}}!??? No this guy doesnt sound like he needs to wake up I think He is pretty coherent and onto ehat Stevens is really all about! What a *** company. I suspect in time they will cross the wrong guy with what they regularly do...

And end up on the news with fetalities and statistics... spokes person oblivious to the long ingnored outrage of those Stevens has *** on. Im sure we will see it one day. That one guy who just cant seem to excuse the abusive giant and snap.

I would not at all be surprised to say the least! Stevens Sucks!!!!!

Well stevens doesnt want you to stay here. yes I said here.

I work for stevens. We have it set up so you will quit. Thats why we hire 50 ppl a week and only have 1700 trucks we dont need that many people. So we keep a 180% turnover rate.

And even if you have a CDL we will make you retrain. And as for pay actually our students make more than solo drivers. A new solo driver starting out if he or she doesnt make any mistakes will make around 200.00 a week. And if you try to go to another company we will do several things to slow you down maybe even stop you.

We will drag our feet or even withhold your paperwork due to you in debt to us. Also we will give a bad report on you as a driver. Not to mention all the charges. way to many to list.

And yes we do have the longest training in the industry 3 weeks of school for which we will charge you for everything (room, transportation, food, ect.) to come out of your pay when you finish.

Then 5 weeks with a trainer then 3 days of orientation 2 then 3 more weeks with a finishing trainer then 90 days on grad fleet. Thats the real deal

i'm thinking about going to steven's for driving.i goted c.d.l already&and some exp.but do i sign a contract.or do i need training again.and how much it cost? i can drived trucks.i have no problem with gears,backing.respond to former steven's.before i go there.for training&3dys orientation's thks

Stevens can only get paid from the government for a student who is on unemploymentdue to layoff or job closure ,and, or recieving foodstamps then the state will pay 6,000 for retraining for a new career. not every studentfits into this catergory.that is for any career not only trucking.

I went through the same program in Phoenix,Az in 1998. The printing co i was working for had shut down due to a union labor dispute. The city of Phoenix has a program wich they will pay $5,000.00 to the school of your choice to train for a new career. I chose to go to (RSI) The Refrigeration School Incoorperated the total cost was $6,200.00 i had a balance of $1,200.00 to pay to the school.

So Stevens is not doing nothing wrong for chargimg you $6,000.00 for learning to operate a commercial vechicle, and for the double dipping i dont think they would do that, because if you quit before i am pretty sure the state of Texas wants thier $5.000.00 back wich was given to Stevens for the ones who were in that program, but now back on unemployment, and or foodstamps.GET IT

i stuck it to steve arrons mom

stevens promises 40,000 ayear. first year when recruiting.

that is average pay for a hard worker. and that is why people show up and sign up. so don't blame them for being pissed about being lied to and stolen from.

you long time stevens drivers who defend the company are not employable anywhere else for various reasons. you are a broke *** stevens slaves and everybody knows it.

O.K. I'll say ths again, since it was obviously missed entirely. Stevens takes a GOVERNMENT Subsidy of at least 7000.00 per student. Additionally, they ALSO take the same 7000.00 from each student. It's calle double dipping, being paid twice for the same thing, misrepresentation and in legal circles-FRAUD against the Government.

No, you are correct- Steven's is not the only Scam, Liar, Cheat and Fraud on the block-Try other thieves Like CR England, a "real hayride..." Name your Poison-It's in Trucking Schools. I say, "Bring On More Railroad!"

Oh, and by the way- for all statements made regarding my ability to read, decipher and assimilate the information within the contract, This is NOT and was NOT a problem-the problem is with what they DID NOT disclose within the contract-of which there is a great deal-THAT is where the FRAUD issues come in.

My reasons for writing ANY of this was to warn and protect any other unsuspecting people looking desperately for work from entering into the same nightmare that is available here. If the information ans statements of FACT are not appreciated, have at it-it's your funeral.

Stevens is a very dishonest company. You can expect to be shorted on every settlement .If you have to fight to get the money that you worked so hard for then somethings is wrong with the company.Just ask any truck driver about Stevens Transport :(

Guest

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH JL.

Man i cant believe all theese people go there and sign a contract without reading. go out for two months and complain about sitting at IBP for two days knowing they are on grad fleet, and expect to make big money from day one.after about 4 trips to IBP I never seen them again.who does theese grad fleet drivers expect to do all that waiting.the senior drivers. :cry

Guest

HEY STAMPEDE

you should be able to file all this on your taxes if you did not go the whole year for them.

Guest

duh of course your gonna have to make money for the co. how do you expect to get paid.if the truck dont roll no one gets paaid.

Guest

$18.000 how many times did he have to be trained when I went through Stevens it was $5.000 and I stayed the whole year and the loan was paid off.

never felt like i was mistreated by anyone there. just after a 15 months I missed being home, and now that im home i miss driving.oh yea you can get your cdl just by reading a book and a little road time. boy you scare the *** out of me.

Guest

i'm currently on my 2nd month as a solo graduate driver with Stevens Transport . I'll try to be short about my experience and feelings about Stevens transport.

They prepare you well as a truck driver...there are holes in the way they teach though. Their school costs you $7k. If you stay with them for a year, they pay you back some of that money. They are very strict about everything.

If you work for them as a company driver, you won't make much money....it will be more agravation than anything else. If you lease, you might make more, but many drivers say they aren't making what was promised. Those that are making money are the drivers who train students...because a student will double the milage and pay for that driver/trainer. They can terminate you in a heart beat, be aware...or they can cause you to quit with much aggrevation (many student/drivers quit).

There is an attitude problem with the people running the company....even some of the dispatchers think they can run your life, and if they don't like you, you're screwed. If you're a company driver, you'll be sitting days at the meat plants waiting for your load...you can't make money that way.

The company has work...only they have very low wages and most of the work goes to those who lease Stevens trucks. Personally, i don't like Stevens and the people who run the company.....you, the driver, don't mean nothing to them, except that you are there to make money for them, otherwise, they don't reallly care about you....my personal feeling and experience with them so far.

I'm sorry you felt that Stevens was sticking it to you, but the things you quote could use a little perspective. 1) 3 wks of school - yes, as with any driving school out there and some are even longer.2) 5 wks with a trainer - yes, and yes it can sometimes take a little longer to finish up this training because they have to try and get a compatabile trainer for you (e.g.

personoality, smoker/non-smoker, etc). And sometimes they just have a shortage of trainers, I mean there are generally only @ 250 trainers and with 50-75 new hires every week, over five weeks you might not get matched up right away.3) $350/wk - yes, but, as with any company, they have to take out taxes, social security and medicare. Also taken out will be any cash advances you have accepted. So, if you ended up with only $100 a week you probably should have thought twice about taking those two $50 advances every week.4) $1000/month - false. This might, I repeat MIGHT have been true while in training, but for you to have made this little as a solo driver you would have had to average less than 1250 miles per week, which is ludicrous because the truck has to average over 1800 a week just to pay for itself and break even.5) Earning 5 figures - easily.

I have made no less than $34,000 a year since I started with Stevens and that was back at a time when I was making around 7 cents less per mile. Last year alone I made $62,000.6) $9000 for school/CDL - not sure. While i think this figure is a not quite accurate and is a little high, I have to say that if you check again, that figure INCLUDES the cost of school, getting your license/testing and room and board. And finally:7) While it is possible to go to your local DMV and get your CDL/Class a license by taking a several tests (depending on your endorsements - CDL, air brakes, tankers, double and triple trailers and HazMat) and by renting a class8 truck and trailer to take the road test, there is almost NO company out there short of the smaller \"mom and pop\" operations that is going to hire you for an interstate (long haul out of state) driving position with absolutely no previous over-the-road driving experience. As with any legal document, read the contract, make sure you understand it, if you don\'t, ask questions. It\'s a major decision and if your not clear on anything get them to clear it up or get your own lawyer to look at it before signing.Stevens is a decent company.

They\'re not perfect, but every company out there (trucking or otherwise) has their quirks and flaws. I personally find something to moan about almost every other day. Like the old joke says:\"Arguing with a truck driver is like wrestling with a pig in the mud....sooner or later you realize the pig enjoys it.\"Give Stevens a try, it\'ll get you some experience and if it\'s not your cup of coffee, there\'s no shame in trying out another company after your contract is up to see if you fit in there better.

I should know, I\'ve quit twice and discovered that there are worse companies out there than Stevens. :x

Thanks for your feedback. It came across as honest.

As a student who's trying to figure out which is the lesser of 2 evils (all because I don't have a few stacks saved up to pay for school outright), this helps a lot. Enjoy your day....

and to the ultra-critical readers, I do realize that i'm responding to a very old post. Thanks!
